Friday 23rd Feb. BBC Phil Rachmaninov 2nd Symphony --COUGH!!--

wondering if the very loud coughing in the last few bars of the slow movement of the Rachmaninov 2nd on Friday evening in the Victoria Hall, Stoke, was deliberate? It certainly ruined the moment.

I hear what you mean. Seemed unnatural somehow. Moron, whatever prompted it.

      Good performance, I thought.

Especially glad not to hear the sort of 'rent-a-portamento' that seems to have become fashionable to stick onto the second subject of the scherzo.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
