      Hiya Pianorak,

It's great that such a rarely heard work is being given an outing with a top orchestra. As much as I enjoy works such as the Schumann and Grieg piano concertos, that are played to death, it's most refreshing to hear something different.

I had a quick listen the other day, and it sounded a lot more interesting than I expected it to.
Recordings seem quite thin on the ground.

There is one from Malcolm Binns in the Hyperion series .Somewhere as a I recall it there is a fizzing Richter recording in mono with Kondrashin- may be on You Tube.

A handful of versions on YouTube including Richter/Kondrashin.

Think I’ll wait for tonight to hear this relatively short work....and only then head elsewhere.

I've got the Richter on LP - time to update to CD? Rifling through my LPs I came across this (rarity?): Julius Isserlis playing Scriabin 24 preludes op 11 (Delta, 1963).

Glad to see this piano concerto gets a rare outing - although looking on Amazon there are now quite a few recordings available.

Not having even heard any piano works by R-K it's hard to associate the composer with this instrument; I shall be tuning in with great intererst. Rest of the menu looks good, too.

Just heard it, also for the first time. It makes one realise how much Rachmaninov owed to Rimsky! It prefigured Rach in so many ways, both meloldically and in piano figuration.

I think that I am playing on the Binns one - made in Huddersfield Town Hall as I recall and very happy sessions.

Good too see this rarity. So much good music, that I don’t k ow about because record companies, concert promoters, etc, only put on what we know already!
