Just seen someone in the audience looking at a smartphone - I'll bet the people around him were pleased.

      Happy Birthday EA .

I thought they said a third of the VPO were members of the Party as compared with 8% of the Austrian population .

The television production this year has been particularly egregious and Radio 3 only on for me now .

Seemed a short first half this year .

Oh! I must have misheard it. I "heard" 80%, which came as a huge shock.

Only six women playing today, as pointed out by Petroc - a drop, he says, from last year.

I suppose it depends whose on the rotation for that particular concert. Most players will want a turn at playing this prestigious date.

Seven actually; the seventh is at the back of the second violins, and has only been shown once.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

You hear all manner of other bands performing waltzes but it just is NOT the same, no matter how good the band.
I've spent much of this concert trying to pinpoint this. It seems to be:

1st beat - quite strong, lasting a dotted quaver,
2nd beat - very strong, beginning a semiquaver before the written beat, but tied to the full crotchet,
3rd beat - on the beat, but light (almost thrown away, and cut off halfway through).

For me a perfectly serviceable NYD concert but not one I will be rushing to order the CD of .

Plenty to enjoy without reaching the heights of the Dude last year.

The Suppe overture a new one for me.

I particularly enjoyed the concert, especially the interval tourist film about Otto Wagner.
Petroc on very good form with his comments about the unchanging nature of the thing.
The director's obsession with piccolo player got a bit tedious.
