Bavouzet - Falla Nights in the Garden of Spain

I had read a lot about Chandos's star french pianist but catching his performance of the above with the BBC Phil was the first time I had heard him play .

Thought it was a quite terrific performance - up there with Argerich and Rubinstein . Such colour in the playing .

Thanks for that Barbirollians, I hope to listen later to it, a lovely work. A strange silence on last night's concert, which I didn't hear. What about the rest of the programme?

I missed it, unfortunately, but (and I make no apologies for plugging Malvern's wonderful theatre yet again!) he was truly brilliant when he appeared here a few months ago. As Barbirollians says, such colour in the playing. For the record, the works in Bavouzet's Malvern recital were Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata, Debussy's Images Book 2, the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Liszt's Grosses Konzertsolo. Wish I'd heard him in Falla.

And, as you readers know, one of the mvts of Nights in the Gardens of Spain was on the Channel 4 testcard in 1986.

Also the D minor string tremelo thing in that same mvt is identical to Mahler symphony no.3 mvt 1 !1st subject group. And they were both written round about the same time!
