    Haitink LSO Concert tonight...

Anyone catch the Bruckner 4? Someone has been interfering with Bernard's cocoa...

I will catch up soon as Bernie has been one of my favourite Bruckner conductors for some forty years since he was with the Concertgeboew and LPO. He makes most orchestras ris e to something very special. I think cocoa and Horlicks jokes rarely apply.

An affectionate joke dear boy... I am a great admirer of his. The chair was there for him but he didn't need it.

It was a very rugged and almost aggressive performance I thought. Lovely tempo in the first movement.

A surprisingly intense performance for BH.

It really did sound as if a master was on the podium.

I had to stop cooking last night to pay more attention - I thought the 4th quite wonderful, with some great playing from the orchestra. Wished I'd been there now. Pires terrific in the Mozart too. BH is one of my favourite conductors for Bruckner.

Sounded a bit lost in the Scherzo to me. And when they played the main theme of the Scherzo at the end of the Scherzo the main theme was drownded.

Good oppertunity to hear Bruckner 4 though. The first Performance on 3 worth listening to this week!

So far I have heard the Mozart No 27 with Maria Joao Pires (wonderfully laid-back) and some of her Chopin in the interval.
              Bruckner tomorrow.

Indeed so when you consider how many times he must have conducted it. The Bruckner 4 unfolded in a seamless arch of sound and Haitink had an unerring grasp of the architecture such as only the greatest of Bruckner conductors can give us. Safely stored on my hard drive for transfer to disc.

A splendid performance of Bruckner by Haitinck and the LSO. The 1st horn will always be the star of this piece (Superb opening and lovely phrasing in that long solo which heralds the triumphant ending of the finale.) But the principal trumpet also impressed with some inspired playing.

I quite enjoyed the concerto - neat and accurate but with recordings by Clara Haskill and Imogen Cooper; playing Mozart concertos is an art which takes a lot of beating (IMV)

It was indeed a superb performance.

And many thanks to the BBC for these live evening concerts.

Just listened to the Romantic on iplayer and felt it was quite wonderful. Shamefully I have neglected 0-6 of late and it was a joy to rediscover 4 which for weird family reasons takes me back to a hotel swimming pool in Disneyland! Then I listened to Klemperer on headphones I found this BH much far superior.

Anyone going to the BH Ravel/Mendelssohn programme next Thursday ?

Work commitments may just allow me to go.

I thought she was wonderful - a masterclass in supremely elegant, subtle & apparently effortless playing. The sound she produced was amazingly transparent. Beautiful dialogues with the orchestra who matched her perfectly.

Listened to this again on Wednesday night. One of the concerts of the season in my opinion. Let's hope this Bruckner appears on the LSO Live label as it eclipsed even Haitink's earlier recording with the VPO.

I must catch this on iplayer, time permitting!! I have always loved this work. Probably the most popular of AB's symphonies and with a champion like Haitink at the helm, thenm this should be self reccomending!
