Adam Tomlinson presents a concert of sacred works by Poulenc and Palestrina, given by The Sixteen and director Harry Christophers in the magnificent York Minster as part of their Choral Pilgrimage and this year's York Early Music Festival. Palestrina and Poulenc: two sacred masters separated by four centuries.
    [..]

Palestrina: Surge amica mea; Parce mihi, Domine; Surgam et circuibo civitatem
Poulenc; Quatre motets pour un temps de pénitence
Palestrina: Peccantem me quotidie; Kyrie and Gloria from Missa L'Homme Armé
    Poulenc: Un Soir de neige
Palestrina: Credo from Missa L'Homme Armé; Salve Regina
Poulenc: Agnus Dei from Mass in G
The Sixteen perform works by Palestrina and Poulenc at the 2017 York Early Music Festival.

Heard this programme in Truro in May. Strongly recommended!
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

It's their latest Choral Pilgrimage, isn't it?

Sounds like it. I've seen them live three times now.

More for Pedants' Paradise, I suspect, but I do wonder what concert they gave in the not so magnificent York Minster (and indeed where that might be).
This is yet another example of the BBC website concert blurb/hype that I loathe.

Ooh that's a bit picky Pulcs. But I agree that a R3 audience does not need every place, name or musical item preceded by an wonderful/magic type of adjective.

Easy to avoid by simply dropping the article: in magnificent York Minster!

Nice programme, but they seem to have forgotten to include some of the Mass......

Is Pulcers having a night out, I wonder ?

( And did the presenter say that there were just two works, or did I mishear in the car ?!)

Oh. Better than Poulenc and Palestrina then?

Anyway, more importantly, how did the other concert go ?

Well, if you have an interest in (and concerns about) the management of the estate, to which we contribute a not insignificant amount of money, then yes!

Well (again!), I think our top line made a better sound (or at least the sort of sound I prefer, which is one reason why I joined the choir) than HC's did tonight.
I'll email you a review from the local paper.

Actually, I agree about the 16'#s top line from York. Sounded a bit more BBCS than I recall. Forcing the tone in such a huge space, maybe? Puzzled. Maybe it was just atmospherics on R3 on analogue.
AAMOI, when a group like The Sixteen / Tallis Scholars etc do such a pilgrimage, is it exactly the same team in every place/concert they sing?

Well I thought the concert was very good, despite previous comments.

No it's not - they rehearse more than are needed and a selection sing at each performance (if I can find an old programme I'll tell you how many).
