Thanks from me too. (A founder mmeber of Ex Cathedra...longer ago than I care to remember.)
Aha...! If you are a founder member maybe you took part in a performance of the Bach Mass in B minor in or about 1985-1986 when, with a terrible cold, I struggled to Birmingham by train to play the 'Quoniam' on a rather imperfect 'prototype' baroque horn ( or more accurately 'neo-baroque' horn).
At this point I have to be honest and say that I didn't play it very well , but it wasn't SO bad that I have never ever been invited to play again for Mr Skidmore and 'Ex Cathedra'.
A very cleverly planned concert. Well balanced both halves and very enjoyable too. It was good to hear the South American second half. All thanks to Jermey Summerly and his research here.
Don’t cry for me

No, I had moved on. Jeff Skidmore started off the group c. 1970 and I stayed with them for a few years until a job took me far away from Brum. I think my last gig with them was Leighton's Crucifixus Pro Nobis in a City church...can't even remember which.
Coming back to last night's concert, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I guess it was a smallish group from Ex Cathedra. The first half had some beautifully crafted performances of fairly well-known English anthems woven into movement's of Byrd's Four Part Mass. So many performances of the latter just chug through the dots at a constant pace... but not here. Much thought had gone into speeds and phrasing. If anything I did miss a 'church' acoustic. Not so in the 2nd half! I felt EC had really let their hair down in their favourite 'Latin American' repertoire.
