No, I didn't, as I'm not familiar with any of the cadenzas.

This was memorably good and the HD sound was first class, especially the piano. I've never heard Uchida play a Beethoven pf conc before and her performance completely engaged me, with great understanding between her, conductor and orchestra. I've only heard the Nielsen 6th a few times. One of those works where one can play spot the influence - in both directions - but what an extraordinary piece.

Gradus. I enjoyed it and Uchida is apparently doing all the Beethoven PCs. There was a lovely pic of soloist and conductor in a recent BBC MM and they certainly work well together.

I hope to hear the Nielsen 6 later but am fighting constant tinnitus these days.

I have now had a quick listen and I think it was the second of the cadenzas Beethoven wrote for that movement (i.e. the one I have always understood to be the second he wrote for it). Quite a few pianists opt for it in preference to the shorter, more familiar one. I prefer it, and I though not exactly a big Uchida fan, I very much enjoyed her playing of it.

Thanks for that, Bryn. I thought I hadn't heard it before. It seemed absolutely monumental and almost disproportionately extensive in relation to the movement. That said I'm not overly familiar with the work and haven't got the score.

I have just heard the concert. Sir Colin's Haydn was as witty as ever, Ms Uchida's Beethoven thoroughly uplifting and for a first performance Sir Colin's Nielsen 6 was staggeringly fine. He finds more humour than many conductors.

Yes Colin brings something special to Haydn symphonies. If I may mention a CD, I have 6 of the London symphonies, 95,96,98,102,103,104 with CD and the Concertgebouw.

Yesterday's 99 was well up to his high standard. Still haven't heard the Nielsen
