    Ethel Smyth-The Boatswain's Mate, R3, 14.00hrs, today, 9 March

Recorder set for A on 3, today, 9 March, 14.00-15.30hrs; Ethel Smyth's comic opera, The Boatswain's Mate, one of six she wrote between the 1890s and 1920s. The story, setting Smyth's own libretto, focuses on a strong widow, her unwanted suitor and his accomplice. I only know the March song and look forward to the broadcast. Lontano Ensemble/Odaline de la Martinez.
I'll also stay on 'record' for a performance of Bax's Tintagel, BBCNO of Wales/Vernon Handley which follows at 15.30hrs - a great favourite with me!
