BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017 - Finalists

    Cardiff, 11-18 June 2017.

Details of the twenty finalists here.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you for such encouraging news, ff. The biennial fest is always a treat on R3 and TV. I still view the 2DVD set, 20 years - Singer of the World, during 'winters cold nights by the fire': smiley:

Interesting to see the countries putting up two finalists: USA, Italy, England and...

      ...Mongolia!
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

The Media Centre could do with some better copywriters: someone who knows about sentences and punctuation, methinks!

The singers, who will perform their own programmes of operatic and concert works at St David’s Hall, Cardiff in four competitive rounds which will be accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by their Principal Conductor Thomas Søndergård and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera conducted by their Music Director Tomáš Hanus.

Joining chairman, David Pountney, Grace Bumbry and Thomas Quasthoff on the jury, will be soprano Ailish Tynan and Director of Wigmore Hall John Gilhooly.

BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, is part of BBC Music and organised by BBC Wales in association with Welsh National Opera and supported by The City of Cardiff Council.

Do we have examples, of the grocer's comma on display?

I didn't spot any in the Introduction, but then my eyes glazed over when I saw that Angel Blue was once more involved.

I can't wait to learn what they all had for breakfast on the day of their round; so much more interesting than hearing them sing.

It's not really fair to blame the grocers for that one (or the ones in the text Pulcinella quotes) because grocers don't usually write such long sentences!

True, though not all grocers apostrophe's are written by grocers either.

Anyway, a thought: just one bass, one bass baritone; but NO contraltos. Do they not have any good operatic roles or are they really that rare?
