21st-Century European Concert Halls: Afternoon on 3 Monday 27 February

The inauguration concert from the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg

Verity Sharp presents a week of concerts from 21st century European concert halls, including the inauguration concert from the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg plus highlights from the Helsinki Music Centre with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hannu Lintu.

An interesting programme (see Music Played for the full programme). According to Verity Sharp, the music was selected to show off the hall’s acoustic (to that effect). It includes Cavalieri and Caccini (counter-tenor with the harp accompaniment ), and a Praetorius motet. They (the hall management) must have been confident.

I posted the related links elsewhere but this is what we heard on the programme looks like. I can’t tell much about the sound but it certainly looks spectacular.
