    Haydn "Seasons" - BRSO/Rattle 7.2.17

Terrific performance I thought, with - praise be! - three spot-on soloists for once. Really lovely soprano voice, and the tenor not far behind - neither of them singers I knew of. Great orchestral playing and choral singing too, it seemed to me.
    2pm:
    Haydn
The Seasons, Parts 1 & 2 (Spring and Summer)

    3.10pm
    Haydn
The Seasons, Parts 3 & 4 (Autumn and Winter)

    Marlis Petersen, soprano
    Andrew Staples, tenor
    Florian Boesch, bass-baritone
    Bavarian Radio Chorus
    Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra
    Sir Simon Rattle, conductor
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

yup, I was enjoying it very much until I had to do something rather less interesting.

Thanks for reminding us, must catch the rest later.

      Great opening by the way.

( The music, not the thread, though of course the start of the thread is great too !!)

Wow, isn't it just! Missed the start on Tuesday. Can't stop listening to those opening bars - what perfectly judged impact, ideal timps, beautiful blend!

Never become involved with The Seasons before, various listens over the years led me to feel it was a distinct second-best to The Creation.

        Not now.

        Here it is http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08ch96d

(Although listening there has a major drawback... I've edited my download to remove all trace of the intolerable Derham presentation )
