MTT in Prokofiev Romeo & Juliet

Another snowy Saturday night in Chicago and another great concert. The first half was the warm up, with Stravinsky Scene de Ballet, and then Gautier Capucon soloing in the Saint Sean's Cello Concerto #1. The meat of the program was MTT arrangement of R&J. It was great to hear the CSO in full cry on numbers like The Death of Tybalt.

Do the CSO make recordings still? I haven't seen any new releases for ages?

They do, on the CSO Resound label (which admittedly dried up for a while); recent releases include a Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique/Lélio coupling and the Shostakovich Michelangelo suite with Schoenberg's Kol Nidre, both discs conducted by Muti.

I had a look and the site said not shipping outside the US at the moment.

Muti has recorded the Prokofiev R & J with the Chicago SO on the CSO Resound label.

And apparently MTT and the SFSO have as well. The CSO store now only carries CSO discs. In the past they would carry a guest Conductor recording if there was a version of the program work

Don't the London Orchestras have the same situation? Every LSO or LPO release seems to be on their house label

The arrangement of the R&J numbers was made by MTT. It followed the story outline and made great dramatic sense. My previous concert experiences with this music are with arrangements made by the composer (?, I think) and while musically thrilling doesn't convey a sense of drama

Not really because Harmonia Mundi as a pro merchant get less for their sale and have to pay Amazon for the service.

The SFSO is very good and available for as little as 54 p plus p&p from Amazon dealers.

Right-oh. Then go to Presto Classical and you'll be keeping an honest retailer in business.

Not too many available there. Beware, the Suite is not conducted by MTT.
