    Good knowledge, ferns!!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Do you like Stewart Lee and/or Larry David? If so, we've obviously misunderstood each other. If not, we will obviously always misunderstand each other.

Am I alone on these boards to have never heard of either of them?

I'm glad to say I have never heard of either of them. It's obvious our social spheres have been widely different.

All of them? Even if they were to complain about a tasteless joke, or a snide comment against themselves, and were told to 'lighten up'?

PS I have heard the name Stewart Lee, but if pressed couldn't say who he is. Or was, if a defunct recording artiste. This may be because I have retained the habit of skimming a wide range of news sources in case something important is embedded somewhere.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thanks, ff! Being told to lighten up is a bit like being told (as a Bremainer) 'we won, get over it'.

Stewart Lee co-wrote Jerry Springer, the Opera (which I really didn't like at all). Despite that, he is the only stand-up comedian that I willingly pay good money to see. (I hear that his wife, Bridget Christie, is very good too, but I've never managed to catch one of her shows.

Larry David wrote Seinfeld, and stars as a version of himself in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'.

People will likely have seen or read something by Stewart Lee, even if the don't recognise his name or face. a very fine comedy writer.

I've seen him perform in a pub in Galway, which was rather good.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

His latest full-length show, Content Provider, has recently had very good reviews in at least some of the nationals.

Way off topic now, but there we are.

You mean "we are where we are"? (a parallel to "Brexit means Brexit" if ever there was one).

Wherever we are, it's a very long distance from Joyce.

We are where we are, but where are we going, going forward?
