Very much looking forward to concerts here in Arles, southern France next weekend. Sigiswald Kuijken is giving a recital on the Violoncello da Spalla, a concert of Celtic baroque music and Bach concertos for 3 and 4 harpsichords, led by Elizabeth Joyé. Should be good!

All of you HIPsters should organise a little trip down here for the festival next year!
I will also be going to see the preview of a new Arte film about Grétry, directed by Olivier Simmonet, the man who made the Rameau documentary last year. He will be at the screening on Thursday for questions. If I ever see that the film gets posted on YouTube, I'll flag it up here.

Just back from the Sigiswald Kuijken recital - two Bach cello suites performed on the Shoulder Cello and to finish, the Violin Partita No.2 with that magical Chaconne at the end. Sigi was very charming, explaining the form of the Shoulder Cello before starting the programme.
His wife also tried to drum up a bit of financial support for La Petite Bande, which unfortunately is facing great difficulties since the Flemish government withdrew their funding in 2012. Sigi has written a book and they were asking for a 240 euro donation for it in order to support the orchestra. Way beyond my means, sadly.Last edited by MickyD; 23-10-16, 10:43.
