    Performance on 3 23 may

How to ruin a good song? - get Ian Bostridge to sing it

...Mmm-with "Music for a While"by Purcell,I would have to agree really. The Interval Concert was most interesting-
Tippett's Concerto for Strings(?)very nicely Played by Scottish Chamber Orchestra- definate answer to Strauss'
Symphonic Study for 23 Strings it seems to me!

He doesn't ruin Schubert, and he wrote good songs.

Agreed on both points, Freddie. Although I do feel that with the Purcell songs Bostridge was helped by Britten. I'd rather hear a decent HIP account of the Purcell, sung by a less lugubrious singer.

I guess you'll have to try listen again & skip through to the interval, Freddy. However, I do have a vague memory of Corelli being mentioned - but not Tippett, although if he was involved it could have been the Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli

I missed the Weill songs with texts by Whitman - so I guess I'll have to try listen again & skip through to the end!

I heard the fantasia (the only item I heard) which wasn't bad. I was trying to guess who it was by . It was all for strings.
I like Tippett symphony no.2, that would have been good in the second half.

When I heard the name Weill I was expecting his second symphony for some reason.

...Thanks Flos! Tippett's String Quartets are also worthy of more exposure...
