To celebrate 35 years devoted to the performance of Handel's music, the London Handel Orchestra - led by its director Adrian Butterfield - crowns its programme with the composer's glorious Concerto Grosso in A Op. 6 No. 11.

The programme also features a selection of pieces by several illustrious European composers with whom Handel was closely associated

A lovely concert. No catchy themes or arrangements but just excellent music by Handel and his contemporaries, including Unico Wilhelm, Count van Wassenaer Obdam. The performance had an almost old fashioned feel to it. This is a sort of concert that makes you (me) smile. And it was in safe hands of Ian Skelly. Bliss.

A very pleasant evening's listening ds.
I'd never heard of Wassenaer or Quantz.
It was followed by a nice selection of Poulenc,Ligeti,Chopin and Liszt piano music too.

I must have a listen to this. I remember back in the 80's going to The London Handel Orchestra's annual festival held in Handel's own church in Hanover Square - do they still do this, I wonder? It was the chance to discover many unknown works, thanks largely to its then director Denys Darlow.
