Absolutely. I always tell those who say New Year's Day is a boring non-event to tune in to the ultimate in 'feel good' TV for a swift change of heart.

Puzzled why those who don't like the event or music choose to comment on a thread whose subject is clearly flagged up in the title?

Well I thought it was all lovely. Who was that lady in blue we kept seeing? I'm sure Petroc must have told us but I missed it.

I couldn't see her on the radio, which is good, as it isn't important.

It was nice to hear the choir this year. I was amused by the scenes of the boys doing 'normal' things like playing football and table tennis. It's almost compulsary these days in anything dealing with an institution with any hint of privilege. Much like the 'normal teenagers' sections in the recent television series on Harrow and Gordonstoun.

Altogther, a good concert. I enjoyed the dancers.

They want us to be part of the 'Radio 3 family' all constantly tweeting away.

Are you feeling a bit hung over today, alpen? I watched on TV, the camera kept returning to this lady in an expensive seat who was clearly enjoying herself. Just curious as to whether she was Mrs Janssons, the president of Austria, or something like that. I didn't think any of it was particularly important.

That's exactly what I was thinking and then felt I was being rather cynical! Perhaps I should just go with it...

I was rather annoyed that Petroc couldn't (or wouldn't) pronounce Sängerlust with a semblance of the correct vowels: "Singerloost" he kept saying. Perhaps the food poisoning episode prevented some last-minute swotting. Then again, I should be grateful he didn't do a 'Derham' and trip over himself to appropriate an authentic accent - Viennese, in this case! Keine ahnung!

                  Normal service has been resumed!

Which reminds me: Vox populi Vienna-style. Extraordinary!

                    But there is this stunna...

                    Per Norgard: Symphonies Nos 1 & 8. VPO/Oramo. CD/SACD or 24/48 download. Da Capo 2014.

The 8th is one of the iconic new masterpieces of our time, and probably "contemporary" for many years to come...
Don't be fainthearted now... Go and get it!

                    And that's an order!

An enjoyable sequence of pieces this year. Spharenklange above average with Jansons finding the often elusive fibrous inner qualities!

Like Radio 3 the Forum has its irritations: someone has to point out the colour of the Danube every year.

One thing occurs to me every year: the conductor of the Last Night of the Proms should follow the example of the New Year's Day conductor and stick to the basics in his/her speech. "Thank you for coming during this season; please come again next year" - that's all we need.

Ah...was wondering about that earlier on.

Lined it up for a play on Spotty a bit later.

                            But I'm feeling a bit fainthearted .......

Sorry, I wasn't aware that it was a commonplace

And anyway it was exceptionally green this year (or whenever they filmed it.)
