                  And to one and all..

Who is doing next year's 'New Years'? Is Georges P. now hors de combat?

The VPO is great in this repertoire, which is not all that easy, y'know, though much sniffed at. See Kleiber's rehearsals online.

I was also going to point out that it's generally only for 2-3 numbers at most, in a programme consisting entirely of what are, after all, dances. And some of us actually enjoy it.

I also like the usual Austrian Tourist Board footage of the surrounding countryside that they normally give us.

Happy New Year to one and all.

Point taken, RT, but I'm with those shouting at the television. However, having said that, I remember the first time the dancers were performing live and at the end came into the Musikverein Hall itself (Abbado 1991 I think). It was a remarkable coup de théâtre but it completely lost impact when done the second time and subsequently. .

Yes good question about next year. Georges P would very much suit me actually. Wonderful years 2008 and 2010.

                        Totally agree with Richard's #24.

                        Best wishes to all.

Georges P will be 92 this year. Is he still conducting?

Robert Elisabeth Stolz. What did his five wives care?

His UNO-marsch appeared on-screen as Op.1225 or thereabouts. I can't find the exact number, not given in the OP, but he must have enjoyed composing!

                                It was op 1275 actually!

What a lovely waltz Weaner Mad'ln is. Ziehrer was every bit as good as the Strauss's and his great melodic gifts were much in evidence here. I know it from an old Boskovsky LP from over 40 years ago so expected the whistling.
