Radio 3 in Concert on a Sunday evening is a mess and is nothing more than Afternoon on 3 at a different time and day.
For instance, last Sunday we were given Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Bavarian RSO conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin. This coming Sunday evening what is obviously the first half of that concert, Haydn's Symphony No 44 (Trauer), is being broadcast. This, taken together, would have made an excellent Remembrance Sunday programme.
Chopping up programmes like this does the artists, composers and listeners a disservice. Sunday evening is a perfect time to broadcast full concerts from abroad, whether live or recorded, and that was what I was hoping we would get instead of the current dog's dinner.
Poor show, R3!
