    Arles en Baroque

Anyone down in my part of the world at the moment? We have a delightful looking programme of baroque events this week in Arles, including a Rameau concert with two harpsichordists, followed by a new documentary about the composer. The director of the film will be present after the screening for any questions. I'm looking forward to it!

What? No Bizet on the program?

Thank God, for once, no!! I have been turned off 'Carmen' for life by the number of times that it gets performed at the opera or played in the streets here!

No Bizet in Arles? Sacre bleu! It is enough to make one want to cut off their ear!

Back to your OP; did Rameu Compose works for two Harpsichords? I was just playing a Sophie Yates recording 2 days ago.

I don't believe he did, Richard...but some of his orchestral pieces from the operas such as "Les Indes Galantes" were rearranged for two harpsichords. I heard them in a church in the lovely village of Lourmarin in the Lubéron a couple of years ago with Pierre Hantai and Skip Sempé performing. The arrangements worked very well and so I'm looking forward to hearing them again. More than anything, I'm looking forward to the documentary about Rameau at the cinema afterwords.

Speaking of Sophie Yates, have you heard her Handel discs? They are beautifully performed and recorded.

A recording of 2 harpsichords usually doesn't work for me because the tend to be jumbled into 1 mess. What works in Concert doesn't work on radio or recording studio.
I have Igor Kipnis in the Handel Suites and Perahia on Piano. Truth be told I never listen to either. My loss. I do listen to Rameu's keyboard works.

I urge you to hear Yates' Handel discs, Richard, they are very special.
