I might record the concert and fast-forward anything balletic.

Confession time: I quite enjoy the ballet sequences, but mostly for the wonderful locations superbly lit.

        Disappointed there's no Suppe time.

I enjoy them as well, although seeing the dancers in their cloth footwear dancing on some of the hard surfaces(bound gravel especially) makes me wince. That kind of formal ballet may be a bit odd in some respects but it is graceful, decorative, skillful, and doesn't offend the sensibilities.
I like the travelogue sequences as well, not least as I have never been, and am never likely to go, to the locations shown. I still remember the neolithic piled lake dwellings from a few years ago.

Any bets on when the CD will be released?

Bets are off. Amazon have it as being released on January 17.

You're welcome; happy to help out. The NYT had a recent article from Rebecca Schmid about Constanze Geiger:

Did have a quick look at the wikipedia article, but the NYT article gave fresh insights. I found on YT what look to be two videos that RS alluded to:

Die Nandl-Polka, komponiert von der 16-jährigen Constanze Geiger, wurde 1852 mehrmals im Theater an der Wien, im Theater an der Josefstadt und am Friedrich-W...

Der Herzklopfer Walzer wurde 1855 von der 20-jährigen Constanze Geiger komponiert und gelangte wiederholt im Theater an der Wien zur Aufführung. Der Walzer i...

Looking forward to this. Approve of the programme. I'll take the classics over forgotten fancies. Muti will surely have a good Verdian 'go' at the Gypsy-Baron...

Am sure the wimmin-(as well as Geiger-)counters will be out in force ().

I see that the R3 broadcast starts at 09.30 but the BBC2 TV broadcast is at 10.15. I couldn't glean from the R3 website if they were doing something in advance of the concert starting; 10.15 is the usual start time in UK.

45 minutes of Essential Classics wittering* I imagine(as that's the slot that's been hijacked by the NYDC) - setting the scene, history factoids, human interest stories, listener input, etc etc.

*My brain supplied witterage instead of wittering but apparently that's a place in Shropshire so I had to correct it...

There's also an East and West Wittering near Colchester and Wittering near Stamford. I seem to recall my father mentioning RAF Wittering as one of the many places at which he was stationed during the war.

And yes, the NYDC begins at it's customary time of 10.15 GMT or 11.15 in Vienna.

Me too, a very neglected composer in my opinion.

Thanks, yes, that makes sense. I shall avoid the wittering as usual!

Gracious from the very first bars in a different class to Thielemann ‘s dull offering .
