What an ovation he received from the band . You don’t see that very often.

I wonder if his gestures were always so economical - but this is style I can really relate to.. He's pretty much in control,, and the players seem to be following. Lovely.

I might start another thread about the technical quality - not sure whether to put anything here or in another section. Currently I'm watching/listening directly from our TV which is a fairly modern [2-3 yrs old wide screen digital model]. The sound quality is not great.
I wonder if there's a way I can feed that back into our higher quality audio system which is just underneath this one. Alternatively I could use a digital feed to the audio kit from another source, [some sort of audio streamer maybe?] which might improve the sound quality significantly, but then the audio and video might go out of sync. Does anyone want to discuss this here - or shall we look into SQ improvements in some other thread? There are other approaches - possibly including recording both audio and video and recombinning them - but I would like to have more impressive sound.

** in one of the piece round 11.20am I think he wanted a slower rit at the end - but it's not a big deal.
The simplest connection between your TV and you HiFi will be via HDMI, if your amp has HDMI inputs (as your TV is relatively new it will have multiple HDMI inputs/outputs). if you can, use the connections marked arc/earc and the transfer of sound from TV to amp will be almost automatic.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

I love the way Muti is so flexible with tempi at time - drawing out the violin lines - never more so than in that beautifully played Annen Polka.
Might be tricky to dance to..
There are slight timing issues even with the digital TV stream, which ould be more obvious as lip sync issues if there were speaking actors - but mostly those aren't noticeable. Some sections - for example - where horn keys were pressed in rapid sections didn't quite match up with the audio - though that kind of technical detail is also going to depend on receiving kit as different TV sets could easily have a few milliseconds between sound and video data streams.

You have to be very careful with sync issues - sometimes things appear out of sync and they aren’t . There’s even the phenomenon of people who appear to talk out of sync.

I think this is the first year I have ordered the CD before the concert was over.

I'm pretty sure that when our arrangement was set up (by Richer Sounds) there was a 'delay' option of some sort that could be fine tuned to get exact synch.

Thanks for that suggestion - though that would seem to require an AV receiver - and I don't kow if they all have HDMI inputs - maybe only HDMI outputs. I don't think all "streamer" devices have HDMI inputs - but maybe i"m wrong, or just not completely up to date.

I shall buy the DVD if only to hear the concert without Trelawny's bawling!

Seconded, though was the audio actually compressed? Even allowing for the limited TV sound - which could probably be improved by feeding to an external amp and better speakers, I felt that the dynamics were subdued. Looked to me as though the players were actually playing at "realistic" levels - and following Muti - so did the "engineers" tamper with the sound and compress the life out of it?

Her record of Vivaldi bassoon concertos definitely one of the highlights of 2024 (nearly said this year!).
