    Radio 3 in Concert - Rachmaninov LPO/Andsnes/Gardner

    Just catching up with this concert on BBC Sounds from earlier this month after Gardner’s terrific Rachmaninov at the Proms . Very subtle and beautiful playing from Andsnes in the PC3 . The Bells next .

    Yes I keep meaning to catch up with this too;

    so annoying when you find it’s too late.

          I enjoyed the Bells but the choral singing sounded a bit C of E rather than Russian.

            Non-Russian choirs have, inevitably, a cultural problem with Russian choral music. It's no-one's fault. I remember an old Philips recording of Symphony of Psalms by a Russian choir conducted by Igor Markevitch. They sang the Alleluias quite naturally with a fervency any western choir woud have to work hard to emulate.
