Ryan’s Rach 2 had more poetry but let’s be fair for a 16 year old to put in that first performance was extraordinary.
For once the judges got it right!

Yes the Radio Times certainly lists a 90 minute ‘highlights’ programme on BBC2 with a full version on BBCFour around the witching hour. Talking of which , I’m recording the latter in order to be able to negotiate a path around La Gillam (whom I’m afraid I can neither hear nor see with equanimity)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Saints above why interrupt a concerto with Ben Gernon’s views ! Nor do I need to be told by Jess Gillam howmarvellous a performance was that I found disappointing.

I listened on R3 to complete perfs and looks like BBC 2 abandoned the highlights idea in favour of the same. The background music was pretty excruciating.

Yes that's what I had thought from the newspaper listing I had, and for some reason I didn't double check the online Freeview listings, so was a bit confused to switch on and find a young lad playing violin. The TV programme menu showed that I wasn't going to get the Scotland programme, and I hadn't wanted to watch YM so I switched off and did something useful...

The late-late-late BBC4 broadcast is scheduled to be 15 minutes shorter than the BBC2 coverage - which probably means that it can't be called a repeat.
One wonders how they would have edited the performances of these concertos to produce a 90-minutes highlights programme.

Given that each concerto is about 36 mins what would be the point of 90 mins of highlights?

Perhaps somebody woke up and asked themselves pretty late in the day!

The BBC4 broadcast is scheduled to last 2 hrs and 15 minutes, so 45 minutes longer than the BBC2 programme, not 15 minutes less. It's supposed to be the complete concert rather than highlights.

Both are hitherto private bêtes noires of mine. A fast-forward button is essential for anything involving either of them (other then when exercising their respective musical professions)

The BBC2 programme was 2.5 hours and was the full concert. Whatever programme guides said.

Ah. I didn't watch it as I thought it was going to be incomplete.

In the event (ho! ho!) the BBC2 programme actually featured the whole of the final after all, with the programme on Scottish wildlife being dropped.

Two Rachmaninov pf conc 2s in one concert is too much but I agreed with the decision, in some ways an extraordinary concertante-like winning performance with the piano almost an orchestral instrument in the second movt imv.
