Suprised no thread on this yet. Astonishing talent, as always. Presentation marginally better than usual BUT.....! On the strength of Alison Balsom's remarks the young trumpeter won't be going forward, but strangely she was the only performer who brought tears to MY eyes. But my, haven't you got to admire the quality of these young players. It did strike me how fortunate they were to have supportive - and well to do? - parents.

I haven't heard a single trailer for, or mention of, the Young Musician competition on Radio 3.Last edited by LMcD; 19-09-24, 11:30.

The change of format this year seems a disaster to me. Now there is to be a Final with no Brass or Percussion players.
OK - not sure whether to put this as a new thread, or post on the Grumble Thread instead.
Seems churlish to complain when the BBC has at least [**] offered a few crumbs of "culture" to those of us who like, or have liked, music.
The previous fiormat had its problems, but if anything the BBC has succeeded in replacing it with something even more problematic.
The comments from the judges seem like replies from astrologers in newspapers, and can be taken in several ways.
"Oh - I've got to have X in because I don't want in 10 years to be known as the person who didn't vote for the superstar!" - a slight paraphrase.
Really seems - dare I say it - a dumbed down programme.
A great shame - and the competitors have put in a great deal of time and effort to get to the near final stages.
Well done by all of them.
[**] It was the least they could do - after all!Last edited by Dave2002; 23-09-24, 09:01.
