    Sir Mark Elder Halle 31/5/24

Terrific concert tonight at the Bridgewater Hall . A superbly played Mahler 5 and the British premiere with all three Halle choirs - children, youth and main of a new piece by James MacMillan based on Dryden’s Alexander’s Feast - an attractive very well sung piece with large orchestra . A moving speech from Sir Mark after a standing ovation .

Sounds like it would have made a good concert live on R3 - oh no they couldn’t have done that on FNIMN!

At least we get the Mahler at the Proms.

I see that currently just 32 seats are available in the gallery for tonight's repeat performance.

There were some seats yesterday and clearly there were some parents of the children's choir who took them home after the Macmillan .

              Pretty much echoes my experience.
