Mark Forrest was a new name to me though I gather he is an experienced broadcaster. It may have been a slip of the tongue, but it irked me to hear Walton's 'Crown Imperial' described as a Coronation Anthem. As Sir Roy Vandervane said 'you've got to keep on at them'.

Mark's 38-year broadcasting career includes a long stint with Classic FM, but he has also worked for other commercial stations and for local and national BBC radio.

Mark was on Scala Radio (now Magic Classical) before he was part of a cull when a lot of their presenters were let go. Shame as he was one of the few with a good knowledge and presenting style. Glad he is now on Radio 3. He has also presented Radio 3 in Concert.

Presumably (and hopefully) this means that BBC Radio 3 can't adopt that title as the campaign to boost listener numbers intensifies!

re Magic Classical , I've discovered there's a freeview Tv channel (88) called Classic Hits which describes itself as 'the home of classical music'. I kid you not...

'Essential Classics' was (is?) the brand name of a Sony easy classics collection (eg Beethoven's 5th - 1st movement). R3 is nothing if not innovative [sic] (read that as you will!)! Nota: 1997 - long before R3's EC began. CD Masters was on until 2007, and it was dropped to make way for the easier 'Classical Collection'. That was dropped for EC with Rob Cowan in Sept 2011. Did Sony discard the name and the BBC purchase the right to use it?

If Classic Hits is the home of classical music, is R3 the second/holiday home of classical music? Doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

From the schedules for Monday's Classical Live
The Oxford International Song Festival is one of the biggest and most distinctive celebrations of art song in the country,
From the Oxford International Festival of Song:
                    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
String Quartet in B flat major, K.159 "Milanese“
                    Chaos Quartet
Possibly not chaos but I am certainly slightly confused...
The layout of the Wigmore Hall playlist is not exactly a model of clarity either.
