My dad told me about Lew Stone's regular appearances at the Thé Dansant afternoon events (if that was the correct nomenclature) held at the Strand Palace hotel in the 1930s. "We used to politely ask young ladies for a dance, then return to the table and at the very most hold hands. None of that "Why not come back to my place after this" nonsense you get today!"
