I’ve listened to the Etudes twice now.
The closest parallel is Pollini classic account on DG. Very different from Beatrice Rana, whose Etudes I recently purchased.
I have to say that in a few of the Op.25 Preludes the emphasis is more on velocity than musicality.
    Still, an impressive achievement

If he is that is way over the top. Rachmaninov did a max of six hours and that’s plenty, If he continues like that his career will be a short one.

I have listened to his account of both sets of Chopin Etudes quite a lot now and I get Richard’s point about velocity but I rather enjoy it in the Op 25 set. It’s a terrific record if not quite the last word . Pollini’s long delayed EMI account in Testament is equally extraordinary IMO and I shall always have room for Perahia.

If you thought his Chopin was good the Liszt Transcendental Etudes album is stupendous . Utterly extraordinary for a live account let alone recorded in the semi final of a competition . Like Horowitz levels of poetry and virtuosity.

I’ve got to hear this . Very rarely do you hear wit in a Chopin pianist . The big left hand pub pianist approach he took to the Gflat Op 25 Chopin Etude still makes me chuckle.
