    Way beyond the Radio 3 pay grade I would have thought!

    Erland Cooper - about · music · concerts · contact

    He's obviously been listening to some Peter Maxwell Davies :

    I could imagine Radio 3 of old fitting Mr Cooper into an in depth series contemplating how composers going back to the 16th century in this land have dealt with integrating indigenous folk elements into classical idioms.

      R3 Unravel will be the new streaming service on which you can be sure not to hear the Bolero.

          Petroc Trelawney is quoted in next week's Radio Times (letters page) saying that his 'submarine ' error was due to an earlier mention of U-Boats in the script. But there is no 'earlier mention' of U-Boats in the broadcast. He then says maybe it is time for his script to be printed in larger type or for him to get a pair of glasses. Thkis seems to dispose of the idea that it was a typing error , unless he is being gentlemanly in accepting the blame.

          I still feel that anyone who really knew would not say 'submarine spitfire'.

              I don't think an applicant for R3 presenter would be tested on his knowledge of British combat aircraft in any interview for the job. So I blame the BBC.
              It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                So we have established that he didn’t write the script. An important clue in what is fast developing into the radio crime of the century .
                Are you sure there was no reference to U- Boats in the 48th Parallel link ? Maybe there was in rehearsal but it was cut for transmission for timing reasons.

                  No it’s the first question they ask . The years I spent doing Airfix models proved invaluable during the flash card silhouette test.

                      Never made one of those and I’m wondering whether Airfix ever had a kit for them.* As always the problem with those is the fiddly gun turret.
                      Dont suppose it was a walk in the park being in one for real either …

                      * wrong . They did and still do…£11.99 …

                          £3 is the equivalent of 24p in 1975 or 12p in 1965 (RPI inflation )

                          so maybe not that much of a sale…?

                              I believe this week's FNiMN is an all-French affair and is being recorded tonight at Alexandra Palace. Petroc has reportedly declined the offer of a free flak jacket.
                              I'm looking forward to reading his book on Cornwall, which I shall be picking up from the library in the next few days. Apparently the section on the Duchy's previously secret role in hunting U-boats in the Bay of Biscay while the Battle of Britain was raging in the skies over SE England is particularly gripping.
