Respighi, Szymanowski, Debussy, and Elgar; R3 Live in Concert Tuesday 26 May

I very much enjoyed this concert. The Janacek piece (The Wandering of a Little Soul ) in the interval was interesting, too.

    7.30pm
    Live from Wigmore Hall
James Ehnes, violin, and Andrew Armstrong, piano

Claude Debussy: Violin Sonata in G minor
Ottorino Respighi: Violin Sonata in B minor
    8.15: Interval
    Karol Szymanowski: Myths Op. 30
Edward Elgar: Violin Sonata in E minor Op. 82

Presented by Andrew McGregor was a bonus.

I was lucky enough to attend this concert. I booked without any great expectation, a friend was visiting at fairly short notice and it was a question of "what is on in London that day". But serendipitously, it turned out to be an outstanding concert which I have listened to again on iplayer with no diminishment in the enjoyment. In the same way, I was able to get one of the few remaining tickets for Barenboim playing Schubert the following evening at the Festival Hall. While it would not be fair to say I did not enjoy it, it was a bit ho hum by comparison and the Wigmore Hall recital is the one that will remain longer in the memory.
