The Rach 4 PC is a work that I never really could get to grips with. Not SR's top drawer perhaps?

Maybe, but it can still convince in the right hands. These days I prefer it to the third concerto. Rachmaninov was on his journey to a new style, one fully realised in the Paganini Rhapsody and succeeding works. If he hadn't had to give so many concerts to earn a crust, he would no doubt have made the journey more quickly.Originally posted by Brassbandmaestro View PostComment
