    Shostakovich & Janaceck - BBCSSO 7/5/15

Did anybody listen to this? I was in the hall, & thought it was an extremely good concert. Donald Runnicles was indisposed & Alpesh Chauhan was standing in - I don't know of him but the orchestra seemed very happy with him, giving him applause at the end. The Shostakovich 15 was quite unlike the 5th & 10th earlier in the season, with its quotations from William Tell and the Ring. The second movement was gripping, very intense. Well worth listening to if you didn't hear it.

The orchestra members know him very well. He's the CBSO's assistant conductor, having previously been their first conducting fellow.
