Many of the concerts broadcast on TTN and in other slots might make brief mention of the original occasion, but often very little is said about the circumstances of the concert. It can be quite rewarding to trawl the internet for further information.
So for example, the April 1 TTN opened with the Emerson Quartet playing Mendelssohn, Schubert and Beethoven. It was said that this was from the Royal Castle in Warsaw in April last year. Some little research revealed the information below (courtesy of Google Translate). This was from the web site of Polish Channel 2, which broadcast the concert on 25 April 2014.
An excellent concert! 2 days left to listen. I find it very strange that TTN broadcast the Beethoven last, whereas it was actually first. I had thought that TTN didn’t mess around with concerts in the way that R3 does. But we should at least be grateful for getting the complete concert.
The concert of the famous Emerson String Quartet on the eighteenth Easter Festival of Ludwig van Beethoven was the first opportunity to see this team in Poland. The audience gathered in the Great Hall of the Royal Castle heard three quartets in different ways relating to the topic of death.
- Prepared String Quartet in F minor, Op. 80 Felix Mendelssohn. This is the last of his quartets written shortly after the death of his sister, and shortly before his own - told Lawrence Dutton. - The Schubert quartet Death and the Maiden is woven into the song of the same title.
