The confident and informed announcer of this evening's CBSO concert was delighted to inform us that Elgar used the marking "knobbly-mentay" for the first time in the Cockaigne Overture. He enjoyed this so much he told us twice. The awful thing is that there must have been a producer there to go through the script with him. The sound of the orchestra was pretty awful, too, given that it was Symphony Hall. I mean I'm sure the orchestra sounded great in the hall, but the radio balance was...ummm...unusual.

Picked up already on the Pronunciation Watch thread. I think it was Radio York's Saturday breakfast show presenter. He sometimes does our Saturday breakfast show from SalfordIt isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
