    Basingstoke gets Rattled

No, not footy - anyone who can't wait until Rattle gets to London might appreciate this - but note the date and the seat prices:

If you're interested in Brahms, Rott and Bruckner get on with it they're going fast. Who said Basingstoke is a cultural desert?

Concert tickets at the Anvil are really rather expensive, compared to the RFH, IMO. The vast majority of seats are at £35 and £39.
There are very few in the cheapest price bracket. My guess is that the prices are set taking into account the price of travelling to London for an alternative concert.

however, 2015/16 does look a really good season, although very much standard repertoire. ( Wot, no Holmboe?!)

Was going to start a thread about this season a couple of weeks ago,but then decided not to.obviously.

I'd guess that the Anvil perceives there'd be strong price resistance at £40 and so the top Anvil prices are capped at £39 which means that the other prices have had to be squeezed upwards to achieve the required box office income.

One-price seating gives a much more democratic audience mix than the traditional hierarchical pricing. The large Crucible Theatre in Sheffield now charges a standard ticket price throughout the theatre, but it's lower at £21.

We booked a few weeks ago. Pleasant concert hall with good acoustics which has the advantage for us of being easier and cheaper to get to than London.

Does Basingstoke have its own calendar that differs from the rest of Europe?

                a. it doesn't say its 2016.
                b. Does anybody book that far ahead? One could be dead by then, or one's tastes could have changed.

that applies to any concert ticket purchased, TBF.

could be a good sales pitch for promming tickets though....

If I'm dead I almost certainly won't be attending.

but if one booked for something that is three weeks ahead there is statistically a much better probability of reaching it. I may want to hear a certain programme now, but how could I know what I would feel like hearing in a year's time?

are you uncertain about your status? Certain concerts make me think I am, some make me wish that I were, although anaesthesia would suffice..

Artists are frequently booked years ahead. It's surely only fair if audiences do likewise!

I'm not sure what fairness (whatever that may be) has to do with it, but perhaps the artists should rebel against the policy. I recall being able to book for an opera about one month in advance, and I assume the current policy in many places of booking several months in advance is merely a ploy to make us part with the money long before we attend. Not many other commercial organisations (which is what theatres, opera houses, concert halls are, as opposed to the artists) would survive on such a policy. I wonder how many people really do plan their lives so far ahead. I have lost count of the number of tickets (usually for the theatre) booked months in advance which I have wasted because when the time arrived I no longer had any wish to attend.
