Which performance in history do you wish you'd been at?
The Austrian premier of Salome in 1906 must have been quite a night. Banned from Vienna, it took place in Graz and was conducted by the composer - who had not conducted the first performance in Dresden. In attendance were Mahler + Alma, Berg, Schönberg, Zemlinsky, Puccini and possibly the 17 year-old Adolf Hitler. (In Thomas Mann's novel, Doktor Faustus, the main character Adrian Leverkühn also attends and after the performance contracts syphilis from the prostitute, Esmerelda.)
