Beethoven piano concerti, Andsnes & Mahler CO, Carnegie Hall

For anyone interested, Carnegie Hall has the recent performance of LvB's Piano Concertos Nos. 2-4 available to listen to here. I didn't see a link to the separate concert of 1 & 5, so obviously you really had to be there for that one.

I have been underwhelmed by the bits of Adneses 'Beethoven Experiment' (or whatever he calls it) that I have heard...a distinctly mediocre 4th Concerto and a lethargic Emperor.

I have only seen this pianist live once but I would not go again. He played an all Chopin programme efficiently but it just didn't engage interest. At the same venue the week before Steven Osborne had played a Ravel programme that encouraged me to see/listen to him whenever possible. Probably says as much about my preferences in performing personality as much as anything else; the one insular-seeming the other warm and responsive to the music.

I emjoyed his 1-3 but agree about 4&5. I'll stick with Gilels.
