Chicago SO & Rudoph Buchbinder, p; Ricardo Muti, c.
Last night an all Mozart Program, 2 minor key works. The PC was the highlight for us. The soloist played his own cadenza in I. I had never seen him before, only knew a few recordings. He and Muti were expansive and lyrical, less hard driven than others make of this most prto Beethovian work, and it worked well.
The Requiem was Sussmayr. The Chorus was the star here, mixing soft pianissimos with incisive attacks such as "Rex". I get a bit bored in the latter stages, which is more Sussmayr than Mozart and prefer other versions, but it was a satisfying evening.
