Berlin Philharmonic / Simon Rattle / Sibelius cycle / Barbican R3 live 10-12/02/15

So, here it is... hope to take as much as possible live, but determined to catch all of it, even if it means iplayer at 0400 with a hot choccy...

If the Frankfurt CBSO Beethoven was a must-hear, surely this is too...

Greatly looking forward to these concerts. Would really like to have taken one in by going to the hall but work commitments and funds meant I've chosen the Mahler 2 to go to on Saturday

I want to catch these Sibelius concerts live if possible which might mean some strange mealtimes.

I've already warned the family, but I know that I'll have to end up listening with headphones instead of the house hi-fi

You could start Mrs ts gently with some Lachenmann first.

Having seen the three concerts live on the Berlin Phil's Digital concert hall I'm not sure I can listen again so soon. They really were amongst the highlights of my musical life!

I'll pobably record them on mini-disc for future listening but, of course, the Berlin concerts will be available on the Digi site.

Sir Simon and the Orchestra MUST be recording these for EMI.

...Unless of course it's on their own new Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings label. If they are, PLEASE let it be anywhere than in the Philharmonie. I've hardly heard a single truly enjoyable recording from the place, it never sounds quite right. Even on the DCH, smaller groups tend to sound better. (Alessandrini in Beethoven 2, Emmanuelle Haim in Rameau). They should get themselves back to the Christuskirche as the prime recording venue.

A forthcoming attraction of the new label is... the complete Schubert Symphonies, with Harnoncourt....

Oh dear. Just thrown caution and common sense to the wind! Booked an early train to London and a sleeper back to Edinburgh for Thursday so going to hear Sibelius 5, 6 & 7!!

Going to be a long day but well worth it!

                              I'm envious.

But I thought it's all been sold out for more than a year - I presume you have a ticket
