Alisa Weilerstein Live at Wigmore Hall

Anyone else catch this? Ms W's Dvorak was one of my records of the year last year, great Prom......

I've now heard the Bach twice - I heard great dynamic range but missed a sense of line, e.g. in the prelude. Rather slow, which didn't help, tempi pulled about I thought, I prefer my Bach suites more austere. I listened to Janos Starker to confirm my impression. The Kodaly was OK, she certainly carried it off....

I heard Natalie Clein play the same programme live at our local concert venue a couple of years ago - and have her recording of the Kodaly (as well as Starker's). I think she said it was the first time she'd played the Bach live.

    Hiya Richard,

Alisa Weilerstein is a very fine player but on this evidence she has much to learn about playing Bach.

why is everyone being so polite about the rather horrible Bach playing?
Over- aggressive, scratchy harsh sound, 'quasi-HIPP' bulging on non-vibrated notes, trills like electric door-bells, I'll say no more.
