For many sports, certainly tennis, it's possible to find free internet feeds, often of perfectly adequate quality. I would watch them than give a penny piece to Murdoch. He, his family and his evil empire, as becomes more apparent by the day, are a threat to all we hold dear.

I'm with you Mr Pee in wanting to discuss the music heard/seen performed on Sky Arts 2 without the interruptions by the politcal hecklers here.

My suggestion is ask the Mods to change the title of this thread to Murdochs and Sky Arts, and you can start a new thread SkyArts 2 for music only discussions, I really would expect the Mods to support your wish (I assume it is your wish) that we only discuss the music there.

Absolutely.... I started this thread out of genuine enthusiasm for the music programming on Sky Arts 2. It never crossed my mind that it would turn into an excuse to bash Murdoch and News International.

The hysterical tone of the post from Robert Le Diable, who seems to have confused Rupert Murdoch with Osama Bin Laden, fair took my breath away.

I completely agree that there should be room to discuss the music coverage on Sky Arts without the thread degenerating into vitriol.

Is that allowing for the adverts etc before? When I got to see a film at my local independent cinema I arrive about 15 minutes after the advertised start time to avoid the repetitive & tedious adverts,

I see a DVD of this Holst film is being released with an advertised running time of 137 mins, so it looks as if this will be complete on the BBC.

Incidentally, the Royal Opera House has announced a new agreement with the BBC which will see more opera and ballet coming to BBC TV and radio.

Highlights include:

the new ballet, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will be broadcast on BBC TWO on Saturday 23 April at 2.30pm immediately preceded by a documentary exploring the making of the ballet at 2pm.

a series on classical masterworks presented by Antonio Pappano, beginning with Pappano’s Essential Tosca for BBC TWO and also the development of a new five-part series about singing to be written and presented by Antonio Pappano.

Other presentations include The Royal Opera’s production of Tosca with Angela Gheorghiu in the title role and Bryn Terfel as Baron Scarpia and Jonas Kaufmann as Cavaradossi.

There will also be up to 15 operas broadcast each year on R3 from the Opera House.

At a time when the BBC is having to cut back because of this Government's attitude to it and its craven attitude to Murdoch Empire, I think it's a bit rich to give Murdoch a free ad on a message board apparently devoted to the BBC

No, I thought not

I think that if you take a look at these messageboards you will find that they cover a vast range of classical music related subjects, many of which have nothing to do with Radio3 or the BBC, and also include a fair number that have nothing to do with classical music at all.

So it seems rather odd, to say the least, to suggest that a thread about a TV channel that broadcasts more classical music than any other in the UK has no place here.

I don't know whether Sky Arts have their own messageboards- even the BBC don't have any these days, do they?- but if they do, I'm sure they'll be full of enthusiastic discussions of the music broadcast on the channel, and hopefully free of the depressing cynicism shown by some on this thread.
