    I don't see that that would necessarily follow. Changes to a voice do not have to be particularly subtle for one to still immediately recognise the source.

      Agreed. Obviously the voice was much younger and had a more 'churchy' tone than what developed later, but the essence of it was the same, as was the word colouring and clear diction.

      I have always found that if one meets people one hasn't seen for forty years or so (which does sometimes happen) they may not be recognisable in appearance, but the voice remains much the same.

        Oh I wouldn't dispute that for a second. Far from it. And I wouldn't want to misrepresent what that current BBC singer said - having pointed out all the differences in the voice he then called it "quintessential Pears".
