    Claudia Muzio (1889-1936)

Delighted to hear the voice of Claudia Muzio, chosen by Elizabeth Watts, on today's Saturday Classics (13 Sept '14) singing Giordano's 'La mamma morta' (Andrea Chenier) on Saturday Classics. My collection includes a 2CD set of the complete Columbia recordings (1934-35) on the ROM phone label, transfers and audio restoration by Ward Marston,(1995) and booklet notes by John Steane. Her voice vividly captured and described by tenor Lauri-Volpi as 'made of tears and sighs and restrained inner fire'. An ecstatic experience.

Great singer - I have one of those Nimbus Prima Voce recitals from her.
