I'd been aware of his recent widowering but didn't know about the cancer. Good to hear that he's still active and able to turn out great performances.
One of the conductors who's never let me down: never heard him gvie anything less than an excellent performance....though I've occasionally found his physical resemblance to Paul Johnson a bit worrying.
Gurnemanz's post (3), that Davis shared a 1968 Prom with Frederik Prausnitz, made me wonder what happened to Prausnitz? Davis is still conducting more than forty years later, but Prausnitz? I searched him out on my selves and found six records:
Mono and undated: Walton's Facade (American Columbia)
1968: Gerhard, Maxwell Davies (HMV)
1968: Dallapiccola, Busoni, Wolpe (HMV)
1968: Dallapiccola, Busoni, Wolpe(Argo, a reissue of the HMV disc)
1968: Schoenberg, Webern, Berg (HMV)
1973: Sessions, Musgrave and Rieger (Argo)
At the time, pretty avant-garde stuff (well, excluding Walton and Busoni). Does anyone know what happened to him? 1968 seems to have been a busy year.
I'm intrigued that HMV would allow Argo (Decca, one of their chief rivals) to licence one of their recordings. The HMV is in a series "music today" and the Argo is in the "Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation" series: perhaps the foundation put up an irresistible amount of cash? Or perhaps the clue is David Drew, who was apparently the author of the 1968 HMV sleeve note and at that time editor of "Music Today" and by 1973, director of the Gulbenkian Foundation series?

I hadn't heard that Sir Colin has had cancer & there's no mention of it in this article (is there?!)
