Alisdair Hogarth and the Prince Consort - 4/7/14

When I saw this concert in the schedule I wondered if it was going to be a musical medium act, but prsumably 'The Prince Consort' is a group of musicians, rather than Albert?

Their artist agency page is here:

Given their academic pedigree from the RCM, the name should be no surprise, with respect to the particular thoroughfare in front of the RCM.

From reading this bio, AH and the Prince Consort seem to have more than a whiff of Graham Johnson and the Songmakers' Almanac about them (which is no bad thing, of course). However, according to Ian Skelly, two of the Prince Consort members weren't able to sing in this concert. The agency bio gives mezzo Jennifer Johnston and tenor Andrew Staples as ensemble members, but Rowan Hellier sang in place of JJ and Nicholas Mulroy deputized for AS.

What I've heard so on iPlayer is good, from their selection of Schubert songs, mixing solos with duets so far. Perhaps nothing that sets one on fire artistically, but it's OK, again so far.
