    Yakov Kreizberg RIP

I was greatly saddened today to hear the news of the death of Yakov Kreizberg at only 51 "after a long illness". He should have had a long and even more distinguished career ahead of him. Apparently the brother of Semyon Bychkov, which I didn't know, he took his mother's name to avoid confusion. I heard him do 2 Mahler 5's with different orchestras - a fine conductor and sounded like a lovely man as well. RIP.

That is very sad. He was principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra until 2000 and came back to guest conduct afterwards. I heard him with the BSO in the Colston Hall.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Memorable for me was his conducting of Der Rosenkavalier at ENO in 1994. He must have been in his early 30s. A sad loss.

This is a shock. He was so young and, like his brother, so talented. R.I.P.
