I was greatly saddened today to hear the news of the death of Yakov Kreizberg at only 51 "after a long illness". He should have had a long and even more distinguished career ahead of him. Apparently the brother of Semyon Bychkov, which I didn't know, he took his mother's name to avoid confusion. I heard him do 2 Mahler 5's with different orchestras - a fine conductor and sounded like a lovely man as well. RIP.
