Had forgotten how difficult Beethoven 4 is, although little evidence of difficulty in this performance, noticeably vibrato free. Most enjoyable IMHO.

Ludwig must have had some nifty woodwind players available for no. 4 (or didn't he give playability any consideration ?)

          Yep,really enjoyed that.
Is the slow movement of LvB 4 meant to be played that, well, slowly?

              Agreed Lento

I had a phone call during the Mozart & returned to find Ms Benedetti playing Bach which seemed to discumbobulate the jolly announcer.

A good start to the weekend.

Just started listening to "Egmont", excellent. Thanks for the recommendation. One curious thing - the volume seems particularly low, I need to turn the volume control much higher than usual. Anyone else notice this?

                P.S. Lovely Mozart.

Heavens - the musical criticism is getting very good on here these days - keep it up! (Missed the concert in favour of cuddling the dog. Anyway I hate violin music and too much vibrato. It should be banned and become a capital offence ...)

I think someone is taking the P - naturally we await the proper critics' verdicts with bated breath (and a strong coffee)

Naughty, naughty. I never take the pee (Even Mr Pee) as it rots most containers. But one can sense a damp patch on the podium occasionally - but most people never let it rattle them ...

I seem to remember the live broadcast also needed quite a lot of wick: sounded quite dry, too, on my equipment.

Yes,it was a little distant and the hall's acoustic, whilst allowing one to hear foreground and background, lacked bloom and warmth. I was impressed by young Jeremie Rhorer, a clear-headed conductor with vibrant ideas but not a fussy one - I dislike conductors who conduct ever bar as it it might be their last will and testament. What a great accompanist, too. The "give & take" with Benedetti in Mozart's charming 5th Concerto was superb, creating a marvellous performance. I thought Nicola was on top form and the whole piece had an aristocratic delicacy, lightness of touch allied to beautiful phrasing.

The Beethoven was freshly purveyed. Once again true music-making. If I were the SCO, I'd sign both Benedetti and Rhorer to perform again . Lovely!
